Abstract

There are obvious stages in Jilantai Salt-lake's evolution. From the area's geomorphic structure and characteristics, the stratigraphical and sedimentary characteristics of Holocene series in the salt-lake, feature of salt chemistry and tremendous influence on the salt-lake envi- ronment by human activities, we can divide the evolution of JiLantai Salt-lake since Early Holocene epoch into five transitional phases. They are: Saline-water-lake phase of sulphates type in early interval of Middle Holocene epoch, salt-lake phase of sulphate-chloride type in later interval of Middle Holocene epoch, salt-lake phase of chloride type in Late Holocene epoch and dry salt-lake phases at present. Today, the salt-lake is being transformed from dry salt-lake bed into sand-buried lake bed beca .use of irrational human activities which have caused sands to be deflated from the ground.
