Abstract

In this paper the author discusses the microflora of the peat bed found in the basal part of the Tungting formation of northern Hunan. Judging from the sporo-pollen complex, the author suggests that the Tungting formation might belong to the early Quaternary, in comparison with the flora of "Kimmelia" of the southern European plain of USSR. The climate of that region was subtropical and in the later part of that period there was a tendency to become cooler and drier, that is, probably due to the change of the palaeogeo-graphical conditions of the northern hemisFhere.
